Techno-economic and Life Cycle Assessment of Algal Biofuels Production Processes Considering Uncertainty Aspects
Researcher: Dr. Léda Gerber
Principal Investigator: Professor Jefferson Tester, Professor Charles Greene
The production of algal biofuels at a commercial scale is currently still an economic and an environmental challenge. Moreover, there are high uncertainties linked with the cultivation of algae and the different competing pathways for their processing to fuel and valuable co-products, such as electricity, heat, animal feed or methane. It is therefore necessary to develop a common framework for comparing and designing efficient technologies for algae cultivation and processing, accounting at the same time for economic competitiveness, life cycle assessment aspects and uncertainties.
